Liberty Mutual RightTrack app

Interested in lowering your car insurance rates with Liberty Mutual? Among the ways you save on your auto insurance with Liberty Mutual is by enrolling in RightTrack, a program that gives policyholders a chance to earn a discount of up to 30 percent off their car insurance premium. You also get a discount of up to five percent just for signing up for Liberty Mutual RightTrack, and any discounts you earn will last the entire time you have a policy with Liberty Mutual. Programs like RightTrack are designed to monitor a driver throughout their regular driving routine. They're a great way to both save money on your insurance premiums and promote safe driving habits.

RightTrack won’t raise your rates, even if you don’t earn any discount from it. We went through the Liberty Mutual reviews for RightTrack from Clearsurance users to see if policyholders were happy with the program and if they were actually saving money.

A telematics device based program has helped save drivers money on their auto insurance policy. Some drivers have reported saving upwards of hundreds of dollars on their coverage. There are more benefits besides saving money as well. RightTrack monitors your driving habits. So, it will tell you if you are constantly braking hard, or speeding. This information can help ensure that you are following safe driving practices (which in turn will ultimately save you more money on your car insurance policy.)

What driving habits does Liberty Mutual RightTrack monitor?

The way that customers are monitored by driver tracking programs is pretty universal. It isn't like you're penalized for every less-than-perfect driving behavior; instead, they help provide a discount for customers in order to encourage safe driving skills. There are a few basic behaviors that the plug-in device (or RightTrack Mobile App) will look at on your trips, and those are:

1. Your mileage

Liberty Mutual RightTrack monitors the miles you put on your car, and how long each trip is that you make in your car. It also tracks the route you take, but Liberty Mutual says it does not share your information unless required by law.

2. What time of day you drive

RightTrack tracks the time of day you drive because certain times of the day are considered to be riskier to drive during than others. Generally, driving during rush hour in the morning or night, and driving late at night are considered to be the riskiest times to drive.

3. Accelerating and braking

If you break particularly hard or accelerate extremely fast, RightTrack will track that. Although there are some circumstances in which you might have to brake suddenly, Liberty Mutual RightTrack will penalize you for consistent hard braking or consistent quick acceleration. In excess, these behaviors could be considered poor driving.

How does Liberty Mutual RightTrack work?

Liberty Mutual RightTrack uses an app and either a plug-in or car tag device that sticks onto your windshield to track your driving habits with GPS services and other tools. Which device you get depends on your state. First, you download the RightTrack app and enroll yourself in the program. Liberty Mutual will then send you the car tag device or plug-in that will track your driving habits.

Once you've installed the tracking device, your driving will be monitored over a 90-day period. After that 90 days is up, you ship the device back to Liberty Mutual and you'll potentially receive a discount for your driving habits. If you earn a discount, you'll have it for the rest of the time you have your policy with Liberty Mutual. Make sure that you have the device on for all your trips.

The Liberty Mutual RightTrack app will show you data after every trip, and you can review your driving habits on the app during the 90-day period. The RightTrack app will also show you an estimate of your projected savings so you can have an idea of how much your discount will be. It is rewarding to see how your good driving pays off, and it also creates an incentive to keep a clean driving record.

What do Liberty Mutual RightTrack reviews tell us?

The reviews of Liberty Mutual RightTrack are generally positive from policyholders who use the program as of September 2019. Reviewers talked about the savings they were able to achieve, most citing around a 10 to 15 percent discount off their car insurance premium.

Plus, a reviewer noted that Liberty Mutual RightTrack's monitoring period of 90 days is less than many other insurance programs, which can range from six months to permanent. The reviewer said, "They offer a drive safe program that saved me a lot of money! The device is used for a shorter time [than] all of the other companies out there."

One reviewer said this of their discount, “We started bundled homeowner and vehicle policies in May. The Liberty Mutual agent I spoke with recommended their Right Track Savings program. She explained that the little device that plugs into your vehicle's diagnostics port will track your safe driving and bad driving habits, such as hard braking, rapid acceleration, and late-night (midnight to 4 am) driving, compared to overall miles driven. The fewer incidents of hard braking or rapid acceleration over a 90 day period, the better your discount. You can view your discount status throughout the 90 day period, and see what driving issues you could improve. After our 90 day review on our two vehicles, we saved nearly 20% off of our original policy cost, which was already saving us money compared to our previous insurer.”

Policyholders also talked about being able to combine their other discounts from Liberty Mutual and also compared their savings to previous car insurance companies they'd bought policies from. Many said that combining the RightTrack program discount and other discounts enabled them to save them hundreds more than they were paying for the previous car insurance policy with another company.

One policyholder, who wrote they were "not a big fan of the right track system," still acknowledged that they saved more than 20 percent by using Liberty Mutual RightTrack.

Is Liberty Mutual RightTrack worth it?

Liberty Mutual RightTrack gives you an opportunity to lower your rates based on your safe driving habits. Because RightTrack won't raise your rates regardless of how you drive, it's a low-risk program to potentially save up to 30 percent off your car insurance.

One reviewer said they saved 20 percent on their insurance premium, and other reviewers said they saved around 15 percent just by using the RightTrack device and getting rewarded for their safe driving.

Some customers prefer their privacy and don't like the idea of having a device in their car that tracks their movements. The chance for Liberty Mutual policyholders to save is there with RightTrack, and if you have a successful 90-day testing period, you could save hundreds of dollars on your auto insurance policy.

Liberty Mutual customers do not have to use the RightTrack program, but it is a helpful way to track your driving habits and save money on your car insurance coverage. Call your local Liberty Mutual insurance agent today to see if RightTrack is a good fit for you and your family.

Many different insurance companies have their own variations of a car tracking device program that rewards safe driving. If you're interested in learning about other programs, you can see our blog on the most popular car tracking device programs.
