Capital Insurance Group began in 1898 in Ventura, California as Ventura County Mutual Fire Insurance Company to fulfill the needs of farmers. The company has gone through many changes over the past 120 years during its time through World War II and the invention of email. In 1900 the company merged with Humboldt County Fire Insurance Association of Ferndale. In 1966 the name of the company changed to California Mutual Insurance Company. It didn't get the name Capital Insurance Group (CIG), the name it goes by today, until 2003 after the company expanded to other states. This employee-owned company provides property and casualty coverage in the western United States.
