Most affordable car insurance companies
It’s important to find an insurance company you can trust, but it’s also important to find an affordable one. In the table below, you can find a list of some of the largest car insurance companies and their average rates for male and female drivers. Keep in mind the companies listed in the table below aren’t limited to just car insurance companies that sell near you.
|Car insurance company||Male rates||Female rates|
|Farmers Insurance Group||$2,057||$1,969|
To determine the average national rates for male and female drivers for these 10 insurance companies, we created three driver profiles for both males and females and got rates for drivers for each profile and averaged the rates together. The profiles for male and female drivers were an 18-year-old teen with state minimum coverages and fair credit; a 35-year-old single adult with 100/300/50 liability limits in addition to full coverage with $500 deductibles for collision and comprehensive, a good credit score and one driving violation in the last three years; and a 65-year-old driver with 100/300/50 liability limits in addition to full coverage with $500 deductibles for collision and comprehensive, a good credit score and no driving violations in the last three years.
Additionally, we averaged the rates in each state we had data for that company. Please note: rate data wasn’t available for every company in every state. Rate data is provided by Quadrant Information Services.
Comparing car insurance companies near me
Choosing a car insurance company is an important decision — you’re likely going to be paying them thousands of dollars after all. If you do research and comparison for smaller purchases, why wouldn’t you do the same for your insurance? You should get quotes from multiple companies so you can compare the costs and specifics of the policies in order to find the best auto insurance company with the best value for you.
Not all car insurance companies are equal. Some companies excel at customer service but may have policies that cost more than other companies. Some companies may offer cheap rates but have a slow and difficult claims process. It’s important for you as a consumer to compare companies and decide what you need in a company. Are you willing to jeopardize good customer service and high claims reliability if it means paying less for a policy?
You can utilize Clearsurance reviews and ratings to compare car insurance companies. Certain factors that make companies different from each other are the prices of its policies, its customer service, its claims process, the discounts it offers and the online tools the company has available, such as a mobile app. You can read and filter insurance company reviews to see how consumers say the company performs in specific areas.
How car insurance can differ by state
Each state has minimum insurance coverage requirements that every car owner must have in order to drive legally in the state, and these requirements vary by state. For example, see how the minimum car insurance in Texas varies from the car insurance laws in California.
Texas minimum coverage:
- Bodily injury — $30,000 per person
- Bodily injury — $60,000 per accident
- Property damage — $25,000 per accident
California minimum coverage:
- Bodily injury — $15,000 per person
- Bodily injury — $30,000 per accident
- Property damage — $5,000 per accident
The minimum requirements for car insurance in your state are the absolute bare minimum that you can legally have, but often people choose to have more coverage than that.
In addition to minimum car insurance requirements, personal injury protection (PIP) regulations vary by state. PIP — also known as no-fault insurance coverage — is insurance coverage required by all drivers in certain states called no-fault states. In other states, no-fault insurance may be optional or not available at all. No-fault coverage requires each diver injured in a car accident to be responsible for his or her own medical expenses from the accident and those of their passengers no matter who was at fault for the accident.
All states with optional or required no-fault insurance have different PIP minimum requirements. For example, the minimum requirement for PIP in Florida, which is a no-fault state, is $10,000 per person while the requirement in New York, also a no-fault state, is $50,000 per person.
